Christina + Nick | A Brisbane Wedding With Greek Traditions

“To sum it up, the wedding was everything I ever dreamt of and more.”

After nearly a decade together,  Nick proposed to Christina at her favourite beach near their home on the Gold Coast. A nervous Nick uncharacteristically had a light breakfast and after a brief swim, bundled Christina in her beach towel and asked her to marry him. The surprise proposal was followed by a day and night of celebration with their family.

“Nick and I had been together for 10 years before our wedding day therefore both our families over time have created a closeness and a bond like no other. I really think this was evident throughout the day…Nick and I are so lucky to come from very similar families with the same Greek culture and traditions.”

Honouring their Greek culture was important to the couple, who chose the Greek Orthodox Church for their traditional ceremony. “We had the honor of having three different Greek Orthodox priests conduct our wedding service which was very special. However what was extra significant was the honor of having my twin brother, Dimitri, a very talented singer, chant throughout the beautiful service, giving myself and everyone in the room goosebumps!”

Christina followed her ceremony with a reception at The Greek Club which is conveniently located beside the church and after attending many family and friends weddings there Christina knew that it would be the ideal venue for their 300 guests. Styled with romantic and modern vibes, their reception boasted incredible wisteria features by Fleur Events, alongside a chandelier centerpiece and draped ceiling. “When Nick and I entered our reception room our jaws dropped in disbelief! We were so overwhelmed at how amazing every detail of the room looked and couldn’t believe that it was all for us and our special day.”

Christina took a chance and ordered her beautiful dress from  Zoog Bridal Studio in Israel.  “It took about 3 months to custom make and being in a different country, the process was very risky. However, after receiving the dress I was so happy as it fit perfectly and was exactly what I envisioned!”. She also added a tulle overskirt afterwards by Brisbane dressmaker Freida Lagos.

The funniest moment of the day? A cufflink mishap in the back of the car enroute to the ceremony “ We were all giggling with nerves the whole way to the church but as we turned into the street suddenly my father’s cufflink that I had custom made for him broke! We all couldn’t believe it,  so we had to improvise and fast! I quickly broke off a piece of greenery out of my wedding bouquet and placed it through his cufflink and it worked! The cuff stayed on all day!”

Christina’s advice to brides planning their wedding “Do not sweat the small stuff! Unfortunately you cannot control what happens throughout the day, so do not let the little hiccups stress you out! The chances are that your guests are enjoying themselves so much that they wouldn’t notice anyway!.. I was so happy that Nick and I had the most positive attitude throughout the day and we enjoyed every moment! We laughed, cried, danced, drank plenty and enjoyed the celebrations.”

On what marriage means to Christina and Nick… “Marriage to me is a partnership, a lifelong commitment to support and be there for each other no matter what… I look forward to building a family and a home with my husband, waking up next to him every morning and going to bed with him every night. Having a best friend for the rest of my life and hopefully making each other laugh with every moment.”
