When Adelaide and Bobby mentioned that their wedding reception was going to be held at the Queensland Art Gallery, just down the hill from GoMA, we were beyond excited – and that’s an understatement! It’s so rare that we get the opportunity to create amazing photos in such a unique location, it’s hard to not feel inspired by the priceless artworks that fill this iconic neo-brutalist building.
Adelaide and Bobby first met each other at a mutual friend’s Riverfire party while watching the Brisbane skyline come alive with fireworks – there was an instant connection between the two. But it wasn’t until a few years later while attending the same friend’s wedding where these two love birds really started to hit it off together. They instantly fell head over heels for each other and after a few short years, Bobby finally dropped to one knee and asked the question that he had been itching to ask since the day they first met. Bobbly proposed to Adelaide while they were vacationing through Asia, he had plans to pop the question while they were on the Japanese leg of their journey, but, not being able to wait another day, Bobby ended up proposing on Victoria Hill, while overlooking Hong Kong. Adelaide’s huge “YES!” to the question is what brings us to their wedding day!
The couple wanted their wedding day to be stylish, elegant and filled with love and they certainly started as they meant to go on. Bobby and his groomsmen got ready for the day in the sleek Adina Hotel in Brisbane’s CBD, the boys stepped in to their bespoke tuxedo’s, slipped on their Rolex’s and headed downstairs to the Boom Boom Room, leaving a scent trail of Tom Ford’s Noir De Noir behind them as they went. The Boom Boom Room is probably one of our favourite venues to photograph, the space exudes a dark classiness and is filled with endless nooks and quirks, it’s easy to see why Bobby decided to get some photos of himself and his groomsmen here and the results were astounding!
Meanwhile, Adelaide was getting ready with her bridesmaids just around the corner at the W Hotel, they started the morning off getting their makeup done and indulging themselves with beautiful champagne – if that’s not the perfect way to start a day, I don’t know what is! With the help of her mother, Adelaide got dressed in her beautiful, elegant and flowing wedding gown from Booming Moda Bridal. Along with the rest of her details from the likes of Tiffany and Co, Chanel and Manolo Blahnik, Adelaide’s dress perfectly matched the style and sophistication of herself and her wedding day.
The next stop for the day was Saint Brigid’s Cathedral, Red Hill, for the ceremony. Adelaide and Bobby’s style and elegance continued on into the heartfelt and emotional traditional ceremony. We chose to start our photoshoot session off at the church using the iconic red brick building and beautiful Queensland sunset as our backdrop. There is just something so classical about the way an extremely well put together bridal party looks against a grand old building.
From here we headed back to The Queensland Art Gallery and our jaws dropped to the floor when we saw how they had transformed the already stunning Watermall. Adelaide and Bobby opted for an elegant and simple silver and white theme for their reception room, with a single long table running the length of the giant indoor pond. We just love how the smooth curves of the chairs and silver backdrop contrast against the hard lines of the building, designed by the Brisbane born Brutalist architect, Robin Gibson. The crowning jewel of the reception set up was definitely the giant chandelier hanging down from the ceiling behind the bridal table, this chandelier is actually a work of art named ‘Boomerang’ from the world renowned artist and activist Ai Weiwei. Everything about this room made for the perfect backdrop for all of the night’s formalities, from the cake cutting to the dramatic and intimate first dance!
